Take it from Karen! If you’re a novice or if you have experience but are unfamiliar with Newfoundland, these tips will help.

Packing check list.

  • Hiking boots (above the ankle is best for off-trail)

  • Rain jacket/rain pants

  • Day pack/Water bottle/bladder (recommend 2L, more for Coastal Ridge)

  • Lunch and snacks

  • Sun hat with wide brim

  • Fleece sweater

  • Sunglasses

  • Sunblock

  • Hiking poles

  • Bug spray (personal preference, Karen doesn’t use it!)

Weather.

Wet weather can cause bedrock and boardwalks to be slippery. Please be aware.

All hikes are weather dependent.

Apologies in advance if your hike is canceled due to weather, but it’s important we create the best trip possible and not take any safety risks.

Pro Tips.

Dressing in layers is key to an enjoyable hike.

Dress so that you can be comfortable in changing weather. It may start off chilly but be hot and humid, or vice versa, and in Newfoundland rain is always a possibility!

Don’t underestimate humidity! If you’re from a higher elevation or dryer climate, the humidity can be a surprise to some! Humidity can make a warm day that much hotter when you’re on the trail and is why we recommend you bring more water than you think will be needed.
